the ancient art of Stick and Blade fighting
In 2012 started toward the goal of spreading the art called Arnis by teaching. The particular style of Arnis was Luzviminda Arnis Kali. We saw that it was fading from popularity. It deserves to be preserved.
Our goal was to raise raise young men and women to be honorable and strong enough to stand up to those without honor. That goal has evolved a bit over the years. We recognized that retired warriors need to learn new skills and maintain old ones while adapting to new realities.
Old traditions. Arnis, Kali, Eskrima collectively know as Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) has a long history of defending home, community and country. Used by warriors of the centuries against foreign invaders and colonizers this continues today. The Philippines military uses to to this day. The arts have remained the same and changes as weapons and threats changes.
New times have brought new weapons. That doesn't mean the old weapons aren't dangerous. Blades and sticks are still used to assault innocent people every day. It is important that the skill to defend against these "old" weapons be learned by the warriors of today.
Expanding our contact with the larger FMA community worldwide. It is important that person continues to grow. The same is true of a group. We have gone to other groups around the country, joining as they learn and inviting them to join our training. In 2024 expanded beyond that and went for training in the Philippines. During that trip we were recognized by the IMAFP as promoting the the growth of FMA.
Expanding locally. After more than a decade being partnered with 3T Martial Arts in Colorado Springs, we are starting a group in Woodland Park, open to all ages. We are looking forward to spreading the warrior spirit in Teller County as Stick Warrior Martial Arts (SWMA).
Our program includes sticks, knives, longer blade, poles, bare hand and whatever else we might find laying around. In self-defense you should know how to defend against and use whatever you have. Recognizing that other martial arts are valuable we incorporate other styles enhancing the warrior and the styles in the process.
