History of Luzviminda Arnis Kali

Continuing the Legacy

Luzviminda Arnis Kali is a Filipino Martial Art system developed by Grandmaster Federico T. Lazo. It is a comprehensive combat-oriented fighting art that encompasses both classical and modern interpretations of Filipino martial arts. The system aims to teach proficiency in various Filipino weapons as well as empty-hand techniques, emphasizing practical self-defense over sport. The art is not seen as a sport but as a combat system meant to develop highly skilled fighters who can also become knowledgeable teachers.

As a student of Grandmaster Frederick "Ricky" Lazo, Guro (teacher) Mike Mellinger teaches continuing the goal of spreading the legacy of Luzviminda Arnis Kali.  At Stick Warrior Martial Arts we do a double stick system that draws from Kabaroan, as originally practiced by GM Frederico Lazo, originating in the northern Luzon region of the Philippines as well as other styles practiced by GM Lazo before creating Luzviminda Arnis Kali.

Stick Warrior Martial Arts is focused on traditional and modern applications of FMA blocks, strikes, disarms and locks meant to provide self-defense skills using with and without weapons, such as sticks, knives, swords, or improvised tools.
